Maxtor OneTouch III is a terrible product February 27, 2010 M. Shawkat (Los Angeles, Ca) I bought this drive as my data backup drive. It worked for about a year and then totally gave up without warning. Maxtor Support is aweful, they have no drivers or compatibility for windows 7. I've found 20 or 30 threads on internet forums with the same complaint as me. Avoid buying this product.
A review after I've owned it for 2 years! January 2, 2010 Andrew Griffin (Canada) I didn't realize that I had forgotten to review this product! I've owned it now for over two years. I am still using it, and it works like new as far as I can tell. It has a soft white light on the front of it, which isn't offensive like some brightly colored lights I've seen on some other external hard drives. It installed easily (plug it in and go). It works transparently--haven't noticed any speed problems. I use it mainly to store my music library, which I play while working on my computer. I'm not sure what else I can say other than I have transported it a few times. I don't think it has been knocked around too much in the process, but all the same it is still working; so, what more can I say? I'm happy with it!
Reliable and worked as advertised September 9, 2009 bsptc (Austin, TX) I've owned this 500GB Maxtor external hard drive for 2.5 years and now I've gotten to the point where I need to upgrade to a larger model. Judging from many of the reviews on here it seems that I may have been lucky but I've had zero problems with the hard drive since I've owned it. I have it filled to the brim with media and have had no problem accessing files that I need from time to time. It is still going strong and I would keep it if I didn't need more disk space.
Great "500" gb hd May 5, 2009 ReedWeed800 (eugene, or usa) this is a great harddrive! it came with
465gb instead of 500,but no big deal,
it also came with ntfs instead of fat32
which is great for compressing files!
i am using it with a pc via USB2.0,
i have never used firewire before.
it came with it's own power supply
so it's not bus powered.
it's also very quiet unless it's
under heavy read/writing...
i am very impressed at it's overall
performance and speed.
had it scene jul 2007
highly recommended product!!
Update: jun 2009
i upgraded to firewire and it
worked even better and WAY faster if possible!!!
has been causing some startup issues...
solved by unplugging it before the
video drivers initiate and
plugging it in after startup.
Bought 2, one died after 1 1/2 years December 21, 2008 Seattle Investigator (seattle, WA USA) I bought two drives last year in July 2007, one is working fine, second one died. Along with it all my data which I was using as a backup drive.
I tried to get it repaired, only 1 year warrantee not very reliable in my opinion.
I am worried my second drive will die as well, so I am moving my data over to another brand and dumping this brand.
